What is courage? Sure, we can pull a direct definition of what courage is, but is that what courage really is? Although we are given a definition of what courage is, does it really mean that that is the only definition of what courage is?
I would have to say that there are many definitions of what courage is. During the first half of the semester, we read Red Badge of Courage, and while reading that, I had many questions and thoughts. However, the one question that came to mind is "Is that really courage?" I never really formed my own answer, but instead I was trying to just get through the story because I couldn't decide if I liked the story or if I had mixed feelings about it.
By the end of the story, I had the thoughts that there is no way that I have the ability to really see courage in the main character. There MIGHT be a small light shining on him gaining insight from others around him that are courageous, but I did not really think the character was courageous. What do you think?
What do you define courage as being?
